Defined by dictionary.com, a role playing game is "a game in which participants adopt the roles of imaginary characters in an adventure under the direction of a Game Master."
How does Role Play work on the USS Andronicus?
The USS Andronicus is an online, forum/text based role playing game. The participants, noted in the above definition, are the crew members. The adventures are the various missions undertaken by the participants. The Game Master is the captain of the vessel. The USS Andronicus is not determined by chance factors such as cards or dice; only by the imaginations of its participants. Missions are carried out on message board forums. Each participant writes, in prose style, from the perspective of his own character. Together, these unique perspectives meld into an intricate and well developed story that reads like a novel.
The Forum, The Site, The Wiki
The Andronicus is made up of three components. The boards, or forum, is where the role play actually takes place and where certain announcements can be made. The website contains intelligence about the ship (such as specifications, deck layout, images, etc.), biographies and Starfleet service records of the crew, and information regarding the six major departments. Finally, the wiki is an active and constantly updated repository of knowledge regarding everything from in depth tutorials on how to role play, to a manifest of 24th century technology, to a stellar cartography guide, to a medical database. And much more.
About the Ship
The USS Andronicus, commissioned a standard Sovereign class vessel, was constructed at the 40 Eridani A Construction Yards—a small Starfleet shipyard located near the Vulcan home world. The Andronicus embarked upon its vocation as a Starfleet explorer in 2383. As a standard Sovereign class ship, the Andronicus features an impressive array of technology and a large infrastructure.
